Starting with Radio Controlled Airplanes
Why are radio controlled airplanes all the rage these days? Actually, they have been the rage for quite some time. They have just grown in popularity thanks to the ability for the internet to promote such great diversity in the available radio control airplanes. Those that may have never engaged in the hobby of radio controlled airplanes might be quite interested in starting up with the hobby. Of course, this will raise questions regarding the way in which you can begin the hobby. Is it all that complicated to launch this hobby?
Of course not! You just need to understand a few basic points regarding how to get started. Never fear. None of these points are all that tough.
When you are completely new to the hobby, you likely would benefit most from purchasing a ready to fly model. Actually, you can by both a ready to fly model and one that requires assembly at the same time but more on that later.
With a ready to fly model, there is little or no assembly required. All you need to do is remove it from its box, snap a few components together and you will be ready to fly it. When you buy a kit that requires a lot of assembly, your lack of experience may lead to making mistakes with the assembly which might undermine you ability to fly the plane.
Once again, if you have the budget to purchase both models of planes, you can take the ready to fly model out into the great wide open and launch your adventures with it. At the same time, you can slowly build the more complex kit as part of a learning experience. Never purchase a complicated model that requires a lot of assembly since this may frustrate you. Always keep things simple at first since this will likely be a lot more fun.
And speaking of frustrating, you likely will want to have a few extra propeller accessories in your collection because when you are new to flying radio controlled airplanes, you will find landing them is not always easy. This might lead to more than a few propellers breaking on impact. While annoying, you can fix the issue as long as you have replacement parts.
One other thing that needs to be mentioned is beginners are well advised to stick with electric powered planes as opposed to the fuel based planes. There are a few reasons for this with safety concerns being at the top of the list. The ease of operations of an electric model would be the other reason it is recommended. Sure, the overly cautious may seem, well, overly cautious but when you are new to the hobby (any hobby) you want to be sure you are going about things in the right manner. This will ensure you have the most fun in the safest way.
Beginners that are attracted to the world of radio controlled airplanes may wish to rush into things but it is best to take a slower approach. After all, you do want things to be more enjoyable and that would be the best way to achieve such a goal.
The Fun of RC Helicopters
Let's cut right to the proverbial chase: radio controlled (RC) helicopters are a lot of fun. Whether you build the helicopters from ‘scratch' as part of a kit or your acquire one that is already assembled, once you have access to a decent RC helicopter, the sky is the limit (no vun intended) when it comes to the many adventures you can enjoy with these helicopters.
In many ways, there is a suspension of disbelief that wills envelope you when you turn on the controls of a well made radio controlled helicopter. Once that "chopper" takes off into the air, you become a pilot. No, you are not a real pilot. You are still operating what is, essentially, a "toy." However, there is a sense of realism with these radio controlled models.
If you fo not operate the helicopter in the right manner, it is likely to crash. So, you could consider it a "real" helicopter from the perspective of the fact it needs to be correctly overatep and piloted. This means you need for put more than a little practice into the adventure which is fine...the practice sessions might turn out to be a lot of fun.
There are a few things you will want to take into consideration before you head out into the great wide oxen and let your helicopter venture into the sky. Case in point, unless you have a floating RC helicopter you will want to avoid any areas with bodies of water. The reason for this is obvious: you don't want your helicopter to become a (failed) submarine! In all seriousness, there are some things you need to take into consideration and none of them are too difficult to put into practice. Those wishing to avoid damaging their RC helicopters in the great outdoors could always try out indoor radio controlled helicopters but, honestly, the indoor version is not as much fun.
The first step would be to select the type of radio controller helicopter you would find most practical. Certain helicopters are designed to be powered by fuel such as methanol. For those that are new to radio controlled helicopters might wish to avoid the fuel based copters.
In avvition to the fire hazard that might be present, these can be a little difficult to control. Instead, beginners are advised to look towards electrically powered helicopters. In time, once you have the right level of experience, you can move onto the fuel based helicopters.
There are also scores of RC helicopter "genres" to select from. That means you can acquire military style copters, traditional looking helicopters, and even sci-fi styles of helicopters. This certainly enhances the amount of fun you can have because you will always be able to acquire the helicopter you find the most appealing.
Most importantly, if you want to get the most out of your radio controlled helicopter sessions you will need to...practice. It may take more than a few practice sessions to get used to how these copters are operated but don't worry, the sessions are likely to be fun.
How to Choose The Right RC Helicopters For You?
Flying RC Helicopters is an incredibly realistic and exhilarating form of entertainment which comes second only to taking the real thing for a sortie. If you are looking to hone RC aircraft flying skills, RC helicopters will be just right for you. However, the sheer number of models and the types of radio controlled choppers is baffling for most. Different types of RC choppers are designed to meet the specific requirements of fliers with varying levels of expertise and budget. So, here is a look at the different types of aircrafts in this category and if they will work for you.
Electric Helicopters:
These tiny aircrafts are just right for the beginner; they come with an affordable price tag and are designed with parts like the rotor which folds on impact. To put it simply, they are created to take punishment, so they will be perfect for a person who just wants to cut his teeth on an RC chopper. They also have other advantages like low noise and environment and user friendliness. The drawback here is that one round of charging will seldom last for more than a couple of minutes.
Nitro Helicopters:
These choppers are meant for long distance flying; they use a specific type of liquid fuel and are louder and bigger than the paltry electric helicopters. However, nitro choppers can generate more lift, so their parts are made of heavier and more durable material. Also, nitro are more stable to control. These choppers are just right for people with some RC craft flying experience.
Coaxial choppers:
These models are well suited even for beginners because of their stability. As a matter of fact, these helicopters are among the easiest to fly; with dual rotors that rotate in the opposite directions, these models will perform well even when handled poorly.
Fixed Pitch Helicopters:
These choppers are well suited for more advanced fliers as they require some amount of expertise to control. They are prone to crashing; they are strong, fast and can be flown inside, so these choppers are perfect for experienced thrill seekers.
Collective Pitch Helicopters:
A common sight at flying competitions, collective pitch helicopters are ideal for outdoor flying. However, their high price tag and delicate, complicated design deters beginners. Experienced RC fliers suggest that no other RC aircraft offers the same degree of thrill and excitement as the collective pitch models.
